“I don’t want a wedding photographer”
So you don’t want a photographer – I didn’t either. Who would? The thought of someone following me around all day taking my photo creeped me out a little bit.
So a bit like Carrie Bradshaw, I got to thinking… My friends take great photos. I’m sure they will capture all the important moments throughout the day and I can just collate all their hard work and put together an amazing wedding album. Easy!
Why doesn’t everyone do this? Then it dawned on me, amazing as my friends are – they like to throw a few champagne’s and Jäger’s down their necks at a wedding and especially at a wedding PARTY! And rightly so. Thinking about where and when to be at certain times in order to get the best photo, whilst anticipating what may happen next, wouldn’t be a priority to them. I don’t want them to be stressing out about this sort of thing. I want them to be enjoying the day.
For a brief moment it crossed my mind; No need to worry – my family will capture some amazing photos. This will be true documentary, reportage photography at its best. They’ll be fully immersed in the wedding, literally front row seats!!! Then I remembered the last time I saw Aunt Edna taking wedding photos, IPad in hand, the wrong way around (un-intentionally taking a selfie). This wasn’t going to work either!
I’m glad we didn’t go down this path and instead chose a professional photographer. Sure, we would have saved ourselves some cash. But in truth, you can’t put a price on the memories we are able to look back through.
Of course you don’t have to have a photographer.
Not all wedding photographers suck though. Some of us are pretty cool and relaxed in our approach. Being married myself and having photographed a lot of weddings, I can empathise with your concerns. Nobody wants to hang out with an ass all day, especially on your big day! I guess what I’m trying to say is; don’t have a wedding photographer (I’m a terrible salesman).
If you are the type of person/couple that has nightmares about what tree your photographer is going to have you peaking around during a portrait session. Don’t have a ‘wedding photographer’. Have someone like me, who has had those nightmares too!
Let’s scrap all that cheesy shit and do things your way!
Let’s take natural, quirky photographs that are timeless and beautiful.
I’m confident my relaxed approach will put you at ease.
